Reusable delivery bins: How can you reduce your consumption of single-use packaging materials?

In a constant effort to reduce its ecological impact, Fergus offers a program of reusable bins for its deliveries as an alternative to minimize the consumption of single-use packaging materials and protect your organic fruit and vegetable orders.

What is a reusable bin?

As the name suggests, reusable bins are specifically designed to be used multiple times. These are boxes that are made from a material suitable for contact with food. They are reused in a closed circuit and their lifecycle can be up to more than 20 years!

How the bins are integrated into your delivery?

Orders delivered in these bins will be dropped off at your home at your request and picked up at the time of a next delivery in exchange for a 35$ deposit. The latter is applicable only once, regardless of the number of bins required, and refundable at any time.

Just leave them in front of your door, we’ll take care of the rest!

What are the advantages?

Protection: We carefully pack your order to ensure that it is protected during transport. Some more delicate products (radishes, shallots, Swiss chard, spinach, etc.) will still need to be wrapped in compostable bags. Indeed, since they contain a lot of water and keeping them in a humid environment will keep them longer, for better freshness when eating them! In addition, the containers provide additional protection against bad weather, heat and cold, always aiming to keep your organic products fresh and tasty!

Less handling: Each product is placed directly from its original crate to your bin, then from the bin to your fridge. A simple wash of your organic fruits and vegetables and they are ready to be eaten.

Washable: The bins are cleaned every week with food hygiene products that comply with our Ecocert organic certification.

On the road to zero waste

A study of June 2, 2020 “Less food loss and waste, less packaging waste” commissioned by the National Zero Waste Council and RECYC-QUÉBEC, recommends that food professionals reduce, reuse and recycle more packaging.

At Fergus, we have already implemented the use of biodegradable brown paper bags and compostable bags. The next step is to reduce our packaging consumption as much as possible by opting for reusable.

Doing so, we wish to take our responsibilities with concrete efforts concerning the protection of the environment, food security and the fight against climate change.

The Fergus Commitment

The use of reusable bins is a beneficial gesture that is part of a response to ecological issues as it reduces the use of single-use packaging materials. This initiative is one of several solutions we are implementing, such as optimizing delivery routes and using compostable bags, in order to take care of each other and future generations.
